2012 Swim Lesson Registration and Additional Information
How Do I Register? There are three easy ways to register:
Online For your convenience, you can register online and receive immediate confirmation (beginning April 2).
Mail In Simply use the registration form (PDF). Registration forms are also available at all pools. Mail your completed registration form and payment to: PRNA, ATTN: Swim Lessons, 912 Myers Park Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32301.
Drop Off Bring your completed registration form (PDF) and payment to Trousdell or Jack McLean Aquatics Centers or Wade Wehunt Pool.
Will I Get Confirmation? All online registrations will receive immediate confirmation via email. Drop off and mail in registrations will also receive confirmation via email. A confirmation card will be mailed if no email address is available. Drop off and mail in registrations received within one week of the season will receive an email or telephone confirmation.
Refund Policy In the event we are unable to place you into a class, a refund will be sent within 3-4 weeks of your request. Once placed in a class, refund requests will be considered in the case of injury or illness at the supervisor's discretion.
What if it Rains? Determination of class cancellation will take place at class time. The first bad weather day of a session will generally result in a "safety day" instead of an in-water class. Please do not assume cancellation if the weather is bad. Please see your site supervisor for our complete class rainout/makeup policy.
What Should I Wear? Proper swimming attire is required. Male and female swimmers of all ages must wear actual bathing suits. "Basketball-style" shorts are allowed. Female suits can be one or two-piece, however, sports bras and thongs are not permitted. All children in diapers must wear a swim diaper.

Class Descriptions
Parent/Child (6 months to 3 years old) One adult (parent/guardian) will be required to get in the water with their child during this class. The class is designed to help parents learn different methods of teaching their children to float and kick and feel more comfortable with their children in the water. Children still in diapers must wear a swim diaper during class. Instructor to student ratio is 1:10.
Preschool (3 to 4 years old) Prepares children for increased success in youth lessons and sets a tone for a lifetime of water enjoyment. Playful and nurturing instructors guide preschoolers through the basics of water adjustment and into water exploration in a safe and fun manner. Children will first be introduced to going underwater safely, progressing into floating on their back and front. They will also be introduced to to basic freestyle skills, such as gliding and arm strokes. Instructor to student ratio is 1:5.
Youth (5 to 12 years old) Children are taught in small groups and move to higher skill groups as they achieve the advancement goals of their present group. Starting with the most basic skill, blowing bubbles in the pool, swimmers advance through 10 skill stations from "roll over and float" to advanced stroke mechanics. Instructor to student ratio is 1:5.
Adult (13 years and older) These classes are designed to teach teens and adults basic and intermediate swimming skills. In addition, water safety skills are taught to increase personal comfort levels around aquatics facilities. Instructor to student ratio is up to 1:10.
Junior Lifeguard (11 to 14 years old) Are your 11-14 year olds interested in becoming lifeguards? Our Junior Lifeguard course improves swimming skills and develops leaderships skills. This class includes Basic Lifeguarding Skills, CPR and First Aid, and emphasizes Prevention and Response, as well as Fitness, Leadership and Professionalism.
Prerequisites Must be able to swim the front crawl for 25 yards continuously while breathing to the front or side; tread water for one minute using arms and legs; and submerge and swim a distance of 10 feet underwater.
